As a former NFL Cheerleader, I spent many years learning the art of staying in impeccable shape. We had to master the proper diet, exercise, and mental focus. Start small and work your way up. One of the biggest mistakes that I used to make was working out too hard too fast. I would end up super sore or worse. So, if you haven't worked out in a while, don't push yourself too hard. Remember, any movement, no matter how small, is a great start.
Plan your workouts. One of the most ineffective things you could do is to show up at the gym without a plan. If you are carving out 45 minutes to work out, know what you are going to do each minute.
Learn your body. It is imperative to find out how your body reacts to different exercises and the changes introduced in your lifestyle. Don't take the cookie-cutter approach to fitness, because all things don't work for everyone. Listen to your body.
Set your goals. Write them down and then start focusing on them one by one gradually. Always remember that the desired figure or weight cannot be achieved overnight. Be patient, and celebrate your small victories.
Keep the workout plan as simple as possible. The more complex and hard it is, the more you are likely to avoid it as much as you can. The best workout plan is the one that you can stick with over a long period of time.
